Being a full-time mom is fantastic. Unlike many other women, you’re in a privileged position where you get to take total responsibility for your youngsters. You don’t have to worry about handing them over or missing out on big moments. You should be jumping with joy at this amazing experience. So, why aren’t you?

Even when you understand how lucky you are, it’s not unusual to feel a little stifled when you’re looking after children all day. This is especially the case if you’ve stepped into this role straight off the back of a full-time career. As such, it’s essential to realize the severity of the change and forgive yourself for feeling out of sorts. You may even find that merely accepting why you’re feeling this way could help you to overcome it.

In extreme cases, though, this mom-based cabin fever won’t go anywhere in a hurry. The good news is that, often, this unshakable funky feeling is down to a few mistakes which more moms make than you might realize. To help you get out of this rut, then, let’s consider exactly where you’re going wrong.

You stopped caring about your appearance

You might have stopped even attempting to put makeup on in the madness of your new lifestyle. This is mistake number one. Letting your appearance slide is sure to leave you feeling groggy. That’s why putting makeup on is a must even when you aren’t going anywhere. Perhaps the best way to do this would be to wake up early and have your partner watch the kids while you get ready. Note, too, that your old makeup style may not suit anymore. Pregnancy and birth can lead to skin changes, after all, and your new less-active lifestyle might have even changed your face shape. Don’t let this stop you, though. Instead, have fun learning methods like how to contour to make your round face look slimmer. Use the excuse of altered skin tones to stock up on some new foundations. Then, make sure to use these new options every day to keep yourself feeling and looking your best.

You lack adult company

The company of your kids may be amazing, but it’s no wonder you’re going a little crazy if they’re the only ones you talk to. We all need a little adult conversation sometimes. As such, you should make a specific effort to talk to more mature people in your life. Arranging mom playdates is, by far, the best option here. This way, you can keep your kids’ happy while also ranting to someone in the same position as you. If you don’t currently have any mom friends in your area, make an effort to attend playgroups and reach out. Failing this, you could always make the most of your partner’s presence in the evenings. Instead of shutting off watching television once the kids go to bed, ask your loved one about their day. Just hearing about the adult world could see you feeling saner.

You spend too much time in the house

It isn’t unusual for stay at home moms to feel a little house-bound. You don’t have any set reasons to get out every day, after all, and you may stick to the house until you have a specific appointment for the kids. The trouble is that this can drive you and them pretty crazy. That’s why you should all make an effort to get out once a day without fail. We aren’t saying that you always have to go for elaborate trips or play sessions (though these are important too). Instead, set aside time for at least an hour-long walk on days when you don’t have anything specific planned. Getting out in nature is fantastic for your kids, and it could also help to refresh you like little else.

You’re feeling unfulfilled

Admitting that you feel unfulfilled as a stay-at-home mom can be tough. You may worry that people will judge you, or that you’re failing to appreciate this time. The truth is, though, that this feeling is normal. It doesn’t make you a bad mom, and it certainly doesn’t mean you aren’t cut out for this job. It just means that you might need to seek fulfillment elsewhere, too. The good news is that there are plenty of business ideas for stay-at-home moms, such as blogging or childcare. These could see you tapping back into the satisfaction you got from the workplace, all while allowing you to keep caring for your kids!
