No matter how big or small your home is, you could probably use a little more space, or even just the illusion of space would be nice!
Family life can take over and lead to you all feeling cramped at times, but there are plenty of things you can do to rectify the situation. If you have the funds, Residential Architects, could help you to extend your home or convert the attic space, and this would be a really need solution, but if you don’t have the space, time or money for that, here are some surprising things you can do to create more space in your home:
Declutter
It could be that the space you have is more than enough for the whole family to feel comfortable in, BUT you’ve filled up all of that amazing space with lots of stuff. Many of us have more things that we really need or even want, and getting rid of the excess can make a surprising amount of difference to how much space there is in the home. Start decluttering and you could be surprised by how much bigger your home feels. It’s easier than you might think, so why not give it a go and see how much room you really have to work with?
Hang Mirrors
If one or more spaces in your home are starting to feel claustrophobic, a simple way of creating a more spacious feeling is to hang mirrors around the room. Because they reflect the room back at you, combined with the fact that they reflect the light, they can instantly make the place feel bigger and brighter and that could be all you need to feel more comfortable.
Rearrange the Furniture
Many of us think we have less space than we do because we have placed our furniture in a less than optimal position. Sometimes, moving it around can create more floor space or lead to the room flowing better, so do some experimenting and see which configuration works best for you. Oh, and if you have a lot of bulky furniture in your home, you might want to consider switching it for something more streamlined too.
Make Use of Nooks
We lose a lot of space by not making the most of the nooks and crannies that the average home has. Instead of leaving the space under the stairs doing nothing, for example add a bench or a desk or maybe even a shelving unit so you can remove some of the clutter from elsewhere. Do this with every nook and you can free up a surprising amount of room.
Open the Windows
Okay, so this one won’t actually give you any more space, but if you just want to feel less cluttered and confined, something that can work really well is opening the windows so that there are no curtains or blinds keeping the light out. The more sun you let in, the more spacious it will feel.
Enjoy your newly found space!
I need to do all of this! Thank you Heather.
