SAFESKIN Kids Antibacterial Gel – Educating Moms About MRSA

SAFESKIN Kids Antibacterial Gel from Kimberly-Clark Professional wants to help moms learn how to identify MRSA and prevent against the infection. SAFESKIN Kids Antibacterial Gel is a new first aid topical antibacterial gel that provides a barrier to MRSA, a highly contagious staph bacteria that can infect skin, invade other parts of the body and is resistant to many antibiotics. What’s great about SAFESKIN is it provides a long-lasting protective barrier on minor cuts, scrapes, wounds, burns and bug bites for up to 48 hours!  safeskin_infographic_2

If your kids are anything like mine, they have scrapes or wounds almost year round. These injuries can be potential entryways for infection! Children are more prone to MRSA because they often visit places like day care centers, playgrounds, locker rooms, classrooms, gymnasiums and sports facilities, where people come in close contact with each other and shared equipment may not be frequently cleaned.

Fortunately for me this scrapes on Ethan’s face (from when he fell face first down the front steps) only took ice cream to make feel better. Putting Band-Aids on a child’s face just isn’t very feasible… if only I had SAFESKIN back then (last month)!

Applying SAFESKIN Kids Antibacterial Gel to scrapes and wounds provides a barrier to MRSA. Traditional topical antibiotic ointments do not! Because MRSA spreads via skin-to-skin contact when playing sports like wrestling, football, baseball or rugby, or from hard surfaces in gyms and locker rooms having that protective barrier gives moms peace of mind. Especially since According to the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, skin diseases accounted for 56 percent of all infectious diseases in competitive sports from 1922 through 2005!

Such an important topic! I am a pediatrics nurse and I have seen so many kids with mrsa infections 🙁

    • Hi Bekah,

Yeah… I think that typically people associate MRSA with infections received in hospitals. I guess they don’t realize how easily it can be acquired anywhere! I’m glad SAFESKIN decided to promote this campaign. Hopefully it will help a mom or dad recognize MRSA quickly and treat it early!

  3. Love the chart that Safeskin created!
