My Final Thoughts & Favorite Features : Whirlpool Duet Washer & Dryer

It’s been almost four months since my Whirlpool Duet set was delivered. After the stars faded from my eyes I found myself deep into my normal laundry routine. With a family of six I do about a load of wash a day. The extra capacity of both the washer and dryer make washing these larger loads a breeze.

This is my first front loading set. While waiting for them to arrive I spent a bit of time daydreaming and reading the description on the website. There were many features I thought were just fluff. Now that I’m using the machines I find that I use them on almost a daily basis.  I’ve realized that these “fluff” features actually save me time, frustration and money.

You fill the dispenser with liquid detergent and forget about it for about 35 loads!  I don’t have to worry about my teenage boy absent mindedly accidentally adding too much detergent (or even forgetting to add it).

I never know how much detergent, bleach or fabric softener to add. The washer senses load conditions and manages the precise amount of each additive at the right time during the cycle for optimal fabric care and cleaning.

From hand wash, which mimics washing items in the sink for hand wash only items, to deep steam which penetrates deep into fabric fibers breaking down and dissolving stains like grass and grease without pretreating. It’s been several months since I’ve lost a garment to a stain that I can’t get out. It’s refreshing to have confidence that I can get just about anything out. I used to be uptight and worried about the kids staining their “good clothes”. I am now much more relaxed about them getting into “stuff” outside making them both happier little people.

I also love that the pedestals have extra storage underneath. When I find a great deal on laundry products I tend to stock up. I’ve been known to purchase 20 bottles of laundry detergent at a time. This fills my shelf over the washer & dryer. I can keep the current/open products in the drawer space under the washer as well as my pre-treaters (I love the blue original Dawn for grease & food stains).

I now consider my Whirlpool Duet Washer & Dryer part of my daily routine and part of the family. I no longer dread doing the wash. It’s no longer a struggle to keep my kids clothes stain free. It is almost delight (although I wish they would invent a dryer that folds the clothes and puts them away, too Winking smile.)

I wrote this review while participating in a test-drive campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Whirlpool and received a complimentary Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer to facilitate my review.

I bought a Whirlpool Duet 3 years ago and it has been problem after problem after problem after problem. Whirlpool told me that after 3 service calls that they would replace it. We’ve had 6 service calls (same problem each time) and I still have the same ole’ washing machine. It likes to stop half way through a cycle and just completely turn off. They’ve replaced the mother board twice but it doesn’t seem to change the issue. As a matter of fact, it is doing the same thing now and I just give up. I rewash the load (it doesn’t do it for EVERY cycle, which is the weird part) and move on. I think it’s time for a new washer.

That sad, my mom has one and has had the same one for like 6 years and LOVES hers. I think I just got a dud.
