Rainbow Rabbit book & stuffed rabbit

It’s no secret: Our children are growing up in a world where many of them aren’t being accepted for who they are. It might be that they are too tall, too short, have a different color of skin or ethnic background, or they might have disadvantages that other children don’t have. Whatever the reason, many of these children are bullied into thinking they are less than others and are not important enough for anyone to care about them.

It was his strong belief that this tale of unity and inclusion, with an emphasis on the importance of belonging, would benefit so many people and capture the hearts of children and adults everywhere. At a pivotal point in the story, he writes "The magic happened. Rainbow learned to smile. His tears had stopped, the clouds had dropped, and the sun came out for a while." Arthur understood that for so many children, the sun rarely comes out at all.

I had the opportunity to review the Rainbow Rabbit book along with the stuffed rabbit.  My 4 year old daughter, Mikenah, and I enjoyed it on a cloudy, gloomy day.  When we opened the box, she got so excited to see bright rainbow tissue paper, the book & that bright rainbow rabbit!  She especially loved that she could hold her new rainbow rabbit while listening to the story.  It made the book even more special.

 
The story is a sweet tale about a rabbit who feels sad because he is different.   It goes on to teach a lesson about how everyone is different but we are all special and important.  I liked this book because it’s a good reminder to talk to our kids about loving other people no matter what.  Sometimes life lessons get lost in the hustle and bustle of everyday life and it’s great to have a book that we can sit down and share together.

At first, I was a little disappointed that the colors in the book weren’t as bright as the actual rabbit.  I thought my daughter wouldn’t enjoy it as much, because the colors are more pastel and washed out.  But, I suppose it was just my personal preference, because Mikenah loves the book and likes to sit and look at the pictures while holding her rabbit (which goes with her everywhere!).
