You Take Care of Everyone Else… Don’t Forget YOU! #NSNation

I realize it’s not time for me to blog about my weight loss, but I was in such a hurry Friday night… well, I wanted to elaborate on something I mentioned.

Taking care of ME…

I have been a wife for 22 years and a mom for 18 1/2 years. I am a nurturer… a caregiver… and I oftentimes take it to an extreme and forget about me. I find it terribly hard to say “No” to the people I love and I want to do everything I can for them.

I just celebrated my 40th birthday in May. Since then I have realized that it is finally time to start taking better care of ME. If I don’t, I might not be around as long as I would want to still help take care of everyone that I love. When I take better care of “me” it reflects on everyone else as well.

So, I’ve started showering, doing my hair and makeup and dressing myself completely… every day. I feel so much better when I do. On occasion I will take a day off and just toss sweatpants on without showering and I can feel the difference immediately.

I have been getting my hair done and just recently paid the price for “not taking care of me”. My hair dresser had to cut 3 – 3 1/2 inches off my hair to even out the breakage that had accumulated from not getting a regular hair cut. Shame on me…

I have been trying to tuck myself in at a more reasonable time lately as well. Adequate sleep helps with weight loss! I also feel better in the morning, need fewer naps and have more patience with my children. My babies deserve a mommy that doesn’t snap easily. I deserve to not feel like a train wreck.

We have been gradually moving towards more home prepared meals, non processed and more fruits and vegetables. Basically, eating more of what comes from the earth. More whole foods. Eating my daily requirement of fruits and veggies has never been my strong point. I want my children to eat healthy and by refocusing my eating habits, theirs are changing as well. October I decided to make the jump and stop eating meat as well. My older daughter and husband are vegetarians and my husband (veggie for a year) has been commenting on how much better he feels. I wanted to feel better, too… and I do!

Lastly, I have decided to get my weight back to where I was most comfortable… 5 years ago, two babies ago … 40 lbs. ago. Nutrisystem has helped me shed 12 1/2 lbs of that 40 already in just a month! I am so grateful to Nutrisystem for giving me this opportunity to take better care of myself. It’s already rubbing off. My 18 year old daughter joined me on Nutrisystem this week and she is already down 3 1/2 lbs (final weigh in will be on Fridays with me!).

New Years is right around the corner… maybe this can be one of your resolutions? Isn’t it time to take care of the person that should mean the most to you… you?
