The (big) kids and I are Soda (pop) lovers. So when SodaStream agreed to let us do a review I was bubbling with excitement. Soda (pop) is not cheap and great sales don’t happen very often. We have found a few great deals on 2 liters lately (with the rare coupon), but you oftentimes feel obligated to drink it quickly so it doesn’t go flat. That makes it not such a great deal anymore.
Our SodaStream came quickly and we all acted like a bunch of kids in a candy store. It was hard to hold them back while I unpacked and arranged everything for a nice “before” shot. The range in flavors was exciting for me. I am a true Diet Coke fan, so the Diet Cola was calling my name. Reading the label I was pleased to see that it contained no aspartame, no preservatives and no calories. It amazed me that I 500ml bottle will make the equivalent of 33 12 ounce cans.
Setup was super easy (and quick) and we were making soda (pop) in a manner of minutes. You simply fill the bottle with water to the line, screw it in place, push the button on top several times until you hear the correct number of buzzes and then stop. Unscrew the bottle and add flavor. Our first flavor was diet Cranberry Raspberry. It mimics raspberry Diet Rite, in my opinion. Yum! The instructions mentioned that 3 buzzes equaled “regular” carbonation, but we soon found that (for us) it was a little too much. A couple of us even had a tummy ache from the gas. We experimented some and found 2 buzzes to be just about right.
There are several benefits from using a SodaStream soda maker. Price wise it competes with sale prices at local stores, health wise there is fewer calories in the “sugar” versions and much less sugar, convenience (no more lugging in cans & bottles and having to store them) and environmental benefits from it, too. Just watch this…
My final say… We have thoroughly enjoyed using our SodaStream. We have had it for about a month and a half. With 3 of us using it we just emptied our first CO2 canister. After a little research I found that my local Bed, Bath & Beyond store will exchange my empty for a full one at half the price of an outright purchase. Combine that with the 20% off coupons that come in home mailers… the cost difference from making my own to purchasing a case on sale is not even an issue now. The flavors have been fabulous. Our favorites have been Diet Cola, Diet Cranberry Raspberry, Diet Lemon Lime and Diet Grapefruit. The convenience of having a fresh (not flat) beverage when I want it, and in the flavor I want… plus not having to lug in and find storage space for a bunch of cans or bottles has been fantastic. Knowing that I decrease my carbon footprint with each use is the icing on the cake. I love my SodaStream!
I think Emma & Ethan agree!
