We are tomato people…people who grew up where tomatoes grow best – Tomato Country.
We harvest our well-tended fields at the moment when tomatoes are at their ripest, and carefully treat those tomatoes with the respect they deserve until they’re tightly sealed and on their way to you.
You might be surprised how passionate we can be about tomatoes.
Since becoming vegetarians we have found a new passion and appreciation for tomatoes. We use some sort of tomato or tomato product on a daily basis.
With the cold weather approaching, it’s now time to break out some of my favorite tomato recipes… chili, goulash to our year ‘round favorites spaghetti sauce and pizza sauce. Yummmmm…
Red Gold has a wealth of resources on their website… from recipes, menu planners, and Linda’s Forum (a place to chat & share tomato uses). If you have a question about tomatoes, you can probably find the answer there!
Here is a recipe shared with me that sounds interesting and I’m excited to share!
Spicy Tomato Bread
Servings: 12 Preparation Time: 10 minutes Baking Time: 45 minutes
1/2 cup each sugar and packed brown sugar
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 (1.5 ounce) can Red Gold crushed tomatoes
1 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon each cinnamon and baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon each allspice, nutmeg and ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup sliced almonds
Preheat the oven to 350F. Mix sugar, brown sugar, oil and eggs in a bowl. Stir in the Red Gold crushed tomatoes.
Combine the flour, cinnamon, baking soda, baking powder, allspice, nutmeg, cloves and salt in a bowl and mix well. Add to the tomato mixture and mix well; the batter will be thin.
Pour the batter into a greased 9×5-inch loaf plan. Sprinkle with the almonds. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool in pan for 10 minutes. Remove to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
You can purchase Red Gold Tomato products online or at select local grocers.
