Rayovac has always been a brand name found in our house. Usually in battery form, but we have a couple of flashlights tucked away for emergency purposes as well. My husband and son recently took up trail running (off road) and occasionally they are out a bit later than expected and a good flashlight was something we were in the market for.
I was sent the Rayovac Sportsman Xtreme 2-Watt Focus Flashlight for my runners to try out. It came just in the nick of time, as they were both signed up for a 10k trail night run. Because of the terrain, I wanted a flashlight that would aluminate the entire path in front of them, not just the center. I was trying my best not to receive a call that one (or both) of them tripped over a root or rock and sprained (or even worse) an ankle, wrist, leg, arm… you get the picture.
As you can see from the photos above, the Sportsman Xtreme is a decent unobtrusive size and gives off a decent amount of light. It is not a cheap plastic, but a nice durable metal. The on/off button is easy to use by touch as is the focus. So my husband took the Rayovac and my son took the “other name brand” out for their run.
I am happy to announce there were no injuries during their trail run that night. My husband mentioned that the flashlight gave off a good amount of light when he needed it most to help him avoid roots, rocks and uneven ground. It fit nicely in his hand and the attached wrist strap helped him keep control in case of an accidental dropping. We give the Sportsman Xtreme 2-Watt Focus Flashlight our seal of approval .
