We have lived in our current house for 8 years now… and we have yet to key our front door. If a key was left behind for us, we never found it. It has been a slight hassle at times to use the front door, and oftentimes we have only locked the handle when leaving through the front door (not safe!). When Kwikset agreed to let us review their new keyless dead bolt I was an eager beaver!
My husband is pretty handy around the house. Opening the boxes had us both a little worried, though. There seemed to be so many parts! My husband sat down and read the instructions (yes, he read them!) and felt pretty confident this would be a pretty standard install. It was pretty standard… with a little confusion. Some how we had extra parts. I’m pretty sure that the setup we received was for a standard door (with the regular dead bolt) and then we received the SmartCode dead bolt as well. Once we figured out that we would not be using every piece it went smoother.
The dead bolt was pretty simple and the only thing different was the cord going through the door for the push pad. The outer part of the lock has a spot for a key or the buttons.
We chose the brushed nickle, Arlington Handleset with the Juno knob for the interior. My overall impression is a very good one. We have been using this for almost a month now. It is so easy to go out the front door and set the dead bolt. Just push the lock button and go! The keypad buttons light up for use as night… in the past when someone came home and the door was locked we had to run across the house to let them in before they woke a baby up from knocking or ringing the bell. No fumbling for a key, just remember the 4-8 digit number you program! The look of the handle and dead bolt from outside is sharp. The inside part of the dead bolt is big, but not obnoxious. Our chief complaint with that is the battery cover removes too easily. If you knock it just right it comes off. Oh, and it’s plastic. Everything else is metal and top quality. I am very pleased with our new handles and dead bolt and would recommend it to my family and friends!

|About Kwikset SmartCode:SmartCode eliminates the hassle of remembering or fumbling for your keys, and provides the added convenience and peace of mind that you and your family will never be locked out again! Now you can go for a walk or jog without stuffing a key in your shoe, or worse, leaving it under the mat!
