|The TemporalScanner Thermometer is a totally non-invasive system with advanced infrared technology providing maximum ease of use with quick, consistently accurate measurements. Advanced, patented technology measures temperatures with a gentle stroke across the forehead. The TemporalScanner Thermometer is designed to measure the temperature of the skin surface over the temporal artery, a major artery of the head. The TemporalScanner Thermometer has been clinically tested for accuracy compared to rectal thermometers and temperature sensors inserted in the heart during course of patient treatment and accepted for use in major hospitals, making it the ideal thermometer for use with newborns, infants, children or adults.|
Being a mom for 18 years gives you all kinds of experience taking a child’s temperature. We have used the anal thermometers (both digital and mercury) when they were tiny, I had an ear canal thermometer (that I never really trusted), and most recently we have been using a digital thermometer in the baby’s armpits. All of these methods are uncomfortable and difficult to perform on an uncooperative child.
The Exergen Temporal Scanner Thermometer arrived with perfect timing. Emma awoke from her nap flushed and acting sluggish. She felt warm to the touch so I knew she was feverish, but just how much? With the digital thermometer we would have had to hold her arm down for several minutes while we waited for it to beep (ours is a cheaper slower model). Emma was not in the most cooperative mood, but as you can see from the video… we were able to capture her temperature without a struggle.
My final say… I have had to use the Exergen Temporal Scanner for both babies now (they both caught the same bug). The ease and accuracy (yes, we took their temperature with the digital under their arm as well… wouldn’t you check?) amazed me! I have tossed out the old mercury thermometers and most of the digital ones (kept one for backup) because this particular scanner is great for all ages. From a sleeping newborn to the grown ups in the house… 2 seconds and you have an accurate reading. This is a definite must have item and a perfect gift for a new parent.
