From the website:
There is no better feeling than holding your baby close!
Using the ERGObaby carrier gives you continuous connection, fabulous feeling of freedom, and security knowing your baby is safe.
This is the all-in-one soft baby carrier, assisting you through all the stages of your baby’s growth and moving from front to hip to back position easily.
Parents tell us the ERGObaby carrier is the best of all the baby carriers on the market. It was designed by Karin Frost and has undergone extensive testing by tens of thousands of parents. Its innovative design makes wearing your baby comfortable for hours at a time, gives you the freedom to remain active and productive in your daily life, and holds your baby secure to your body so you are HandsFree.
ERGObaby’s baby carrier design supports a natural sitting position for babies, eliminating compression of the spine and hips that can be caused by unsupported suspension. The baby carrier also balances the baby’s weight to parents’ hips and shoulders, and alleviates physical stress for the parent.
I have always been a fan of wearing your baby. I slowly graduated from an occasional baby wearer (when Kaytlin and Josh were little 18 & 13 years ago) to a more frequent (but not as frequent as I probably wanted) wearer with Emma and Ethan. I’ve had the Moby Wrap, a Snugli, a sling, a ring sling, and now an ERGObaby!
The first thing I noticed about the organic ERGObaby I was sent was that it is incredibly soft for cotton. I am not very experienced with organic cotton but if all clothing items made with organic cotton feel like this I may start looking into it. I immediately noticed the carrier has a zippered pocket and a pouch to tuck the sleeping hood in when not in use (compartments are a + ). The support system is designed to carry your baby in a natural sitting position to support their spine. The straps that go over the wearers shoulders are nicely padded and adjustable. There is a snap mid back and at the base of each strap for easy on and off. There is also a waist/hip strap that buckles as well for added support. From a little extra reading, I believe that ERGObaby has recently created a new design that makes the chest strap one piece and a few adjustments were made on the sleeping hood.
I was pleased to read on the ERGObaby website that although the carriers suggest a weight of 40 lbs maximum, they have been tested up to 90 lbs… so they are good as long as the wearer and the child are comfortable. I cannot imagine carrying a child that heavy, but I know that Ethan is around 35 lbs now and he is only 2. I am sure he has a little more time left in him, right? I also like that with enough practice you should be able to get your own child in and out of the carrier without help. ERGObaby even offers an instructional DVD online to make your practice for effective.
If the ERGObaby wasn’t awesome enough alone, they even have accessories to make carrying your baby and his/her supplies even easier. They have back packs, changing pads, pouches, teething pads and weather covers, too! I do believe they have thought of it all.
Speaking of “thought of it all”… Do you like to wear your baby for walks in the winter, but you worry about it being so cold? I have never seen a product like this and I keep thinking “Why didn’t *I* think of that?”… a Papoose Coat! The Papoose can be front or back… how ingenious is that?
|Wear your baby while you both stay warm and dry in ERGObaby’s new Papoose Coats! With a lighter fabric design for spring or fall, and a heavier, warmer design for cold winters, there is an ERGObaby Papoose Coat for all climates.
The Lighter Papoose Coat is designed for cold weather. The sleek, body-forming design creates a non-bulky fit while baby is in the front or back position, and the double row of buttons on the front yoke enables Mom to wear the coat on its own. The back has a zippered flap for baby in the back position that can be closed when not in use. The liner and outer layer of the coat are made of breathable fabric, and there are slit pockets on each side. Available in Small, Medium, and Large.
I cannot say enough about how beneficial carrying your baby is. My fussy children would always calm down the minute I “put them on”. They could hear my voice, smell my scent, feel my warmth and hear my heartbeat. All of that helped soothe them and that relaxed them and made them feel safe. I am a total believer of how it strengthens your bond with them… not to mention how it can make your life a little easier to have your hands free to take care of the other children or a little housekeeping, too. Having a comfortable and safe (for you and baby) carrier is of utmost importance and I believe ERGObaby has done a great job with this product.
