Weekly Weigh In: Nutrisystem Week 1

weeklyweighin

Good morning! I have now been on the Nutrisystem program for a week… here are a few of my thoughts from this past week.

The food was amazing! Some of my favorites  were the blueberry muffin, chocolate chip scone, chocolate peanut butter lunch bar, vegetable lasagna with basil tomato (ate that twice this week!) and mushroom risotto (again, ate that twice this week!). What about dessert, you ask? Oh my….. fudge brownie, chocolate pound cake, chocolate chip cookie, chocolate chip pudding…. num num (sorry, I crave chocolate once a month. Can you guess when it’s due? lol).

The program is more than just their food. You supplement with fresh fruits, veggies, dairy and the occasional protein (as a vegetarian the main option for me on that list is an egg, a veggie burger , tofu, tvp and protein powder). For example, I will wake up to a cup of coffee and have a NS breakfast item (so many yummies to choose from… I heard there is a double chocolate muffin *drooling*). I will finish my computer work, get the babies dressed and fed… then fix a big portion of sliced mushrooms, red onions and green peppers on the stove. Once they are cooked and smelling oh so yummy I add a scrambled egg into the mixture and cook. Looking at the stack of veggies you can hardly tell there is an egg in there but it smells incredible! I will eat that with a fruit. That’s a lot of food for breakfast, huh? My entire day is like that. Nutrisystem has you eating all day to help keep your blood sugars level and you satisfied… and it works.

I’ve been asked, that as a vegetarian, how I get all my protein in. The Nutrisystem food is jam packed with protein, even their desserts. That combined with food from home, I will get about 50-60 grams of protein a day (yes, that much! There is protein in some veggies, did you know that?).

How did I feel? I have been feeling incredible. I only had one blood sugar drop this week. I mixed the granola cereal they sent with a yogurt (instead of eating a muffin) and went about my routine. While getting the babies set up I started getting the shakes. So, for me, that combination won’t work. No more afternoon crashes where you feel like you must nap. I am actually functioning on less sleep, too. I don’t feel so drug out and I am thinking a little clearer. My first two days I had a lot of “head hunger”. You know… where you aren’t actually hungry but your head keeps going through the list of food you have and telling you that you need to eat it now. That faded away and I am not hungry, my cravings are being satisfied (had a crispy chocolate bar for dessert last night! Oh!! Did I tell you they have a nougat bar with peanuts and carmel that looks and tastes like a SNICKERS?! Oh my heavens…).

So, you are wondering how I did… right? I have to tell you that I am incredibly mad at myself. I (stupidly) weighed myself every morning for the first 4 mornings. It was exciting to see the initial water weight drop so quickly, but then the scale started balancing out and doing the daily jump… so I stopped. So why am I mad at myself for that? Well, initially I almost instantly dropped 8 lbs! Now, don’t get too excited for me yet! Today is a different day ;). I bloat twice a month… mid cycle and the end of the cycle. Well folks, the end is near. That being said, I still had a nice weigh in this week.

Drum roll please…………………………………………. I lost 6 pounds this week!

I am excited and am loving being a little more comfortable in my jeans. I have great expectations for next week and can’t wait to share. I am looking forward to trying the new gourmet fresh/frozen meals and maybe even a little ice cream! Can we say YUM!

Today was weigh in day for Nutrisystem buddies, too!! Make sure to drop in and visit Heather at Living on Love and Cents and Melissa at The Life of a Sippy Cup Mom and cheer them on!
