Put Your Heart to Paper This Mother’s Day
Thank you to Hallmark for sponsoring today’s conversation. All opinions are my own.

I was recently posed with this question…

“This Mother’s Day, what would you say to your Mom if asked to go beyond ‘I love you’, ‘I appreciate you’ or ‘Thank you?”

MomI had so many thoughts swirling in my head. I wanted to start with “thank you”… but that was a forbidden phrase.

So I will say, I admire and respect you for the decisions you made in your life that were more times than not family (child) centered. I know how much (and often) you put us and our needs in front of your own, but yet you never complained.

Looking back my heart swells and my face smiles thinking about nights in front of the fireplace, girls only shopping trips at the mall with cinnamon bears and chocolate covered pretzels on the way home, and sunning ourselves by the pool.

As I was entering my teens I remember hearing you cry when I would scream hurtful words at you. I couldn’t imagine how much those words would hurt until I became a mother myself. I am ashamed and sorry for the extra stress I added to your life during a difficult transition.

I wanted to tell you that I had a happy childhood full of wonderful memories. As a mother myself, I know that is a constant worry and thought of mine. Please know that I know you did the best you could with what you had. By the way, your best was pretty darn good, mom.

I am grateful and appreciative with a heart full of warm fuzzies. Ok, so I cheated and just told you Thank You and I Love You… but I really do mean it.

I Love You Mom.

This will be my 6th Mother’s Day without my mom. At least physically. I still spend the day with her so to speak and get together with my brother and sister talking, laughing and sometimes crying about our memories. I wish I could tell my mom that despite all of the hardships she did a hell of a job raising the 3 of us!

It is always a kind gesture and thoughtful one to put in writing how much your mom means to you and to thank her.
