Play-Doh Letters & Language

Sample received. All opinions are my own.

Still in the box

I grew up playing with Play-Doh, so naturally I was very excited when I received the Play-Doh Letters & Language kit from Hasbro to review. Upon opening it, I was thrilled to see that this set is not only fun, but it’s educational too!

Letter Stamps

This set comes with 2 double-sided activity mats, 26 capital letter stampers, a stylus, roller, 6 different colored Play-Doh compounds, and activity guide. I found the included activity guide very helpful. It goes through numerous activities for each side of the activity mat, ranging from fairly easy activities to more challenging ones.

There are many activities suggested that facilitate learning. Kids can learn to recognize letters, and work on their reading and writing. I think that Play-Doh can be a great developmental tool for sensory motor skills and help children use their imagination. The included stylus is perfect for little hands and makes drawing in the Play-Doh easy.

Play-Doh Letters

One activity I found quite fun was the Spy & Seek. There are 26 different objects listed in the activity guide that children have to find and then match with the correct starting letter. The pictures are beautifully animated. If I could add one thing, I would have liked to see the letters on top of the stampers to identify them rather than just the small sticker put on the side.

A more complex activity is the feelings and emotions activity. You can create a face out of Play-Doh that shows how you feel today or also how you think someone else might be feeling. This is a great activity for children who are beginning to understand feelings and emotions and to be cognizant of not only their own, but others.

Animals and faces

I was happy to learn that I can purchase other Shape & Learn kits and incorporate some of the tools into this set. There are kits like Colors & Shapes, Numbers & Counting and Textures & Tools. These kits are geared at children aged 2+, and at the moment, my son is only 16 months old. H stille enjoyed the Play-Doh nonetheless.

I am excited to use this kit to play with my son to help him learn letters, as it is not only a great educational resource, but it’s a lot of fun too! You can head over to www.amazon.com to get your kit and others as well.
