There really should be a manual on parenting, or parenting classes that are mandatory when you find out you are pregnant for the first time. It’s crazy that one of the most important jobs in the world, raising our next generation, is one of the only ones that you don’t need a degree, certification or license to do. There were so many times in my parenting years that I had no idea how to handle a situation… so I would just wing it.

Fortunately as a third grade teacher I had the opportunity to learn several different styles of redirection to get your children to “do what you want them to”. My classroom had many children that were challenging in that respect, so working with these experts taught me many things about how children’s minds work. One thing I realized is, children inherently want to do the right thing and please you. After my second child arrived I surprised myself with my new “parenting style”. I realized that I wasn’t yelling near as much, I wasn’t swatting and our lives were much less stressful than with our first. I love when you find a technique that works. The fact that is brought less stress, less violence and more tranquility to our household was the cherry on top.

I was recently asked by Popsugar to screen an episode of Lifetime’s series Pretty Wicked Moms. Unfortunately we do not have cable, so I was not aware of this program until now. I will admit I love reality shows, and this one was no exception. I will just describe it as “Mean Girls” turned Mom. Remember the beautiful but snarky and mean girls from high school, yeah them. This program is chalk full of them. There are a couple of them in the program that I would love to grab by the shoulders to shake some sense into them. But in the end, it’s raw truth. Birthday parties, co-sleeping, trying to out-do the Jones’…. yep. Really, it’s a must watch.

Tune in to watch parenting like you’ve never seen before with the first episode of Pretty Wicked Moms on Tuesday, June 4, at 10:00 pm ET/PT on Lifetime

Holy moly rocky! Those people are outlandish. I’d have to say, sitting back and watching these people would be hysterical and make me feel normal! We didn’t have more than basic channels at our old house so it’s awesome to have a bigger selection at the new place, including Lifetime! Thanks for the heads up!

I’m seeing a lot about this show. Not sure if it’s “my thing”, but I might have to give it a show just for the drama that is sure to ensue! haha…sometimes my own life seems a little boring! lol

  11. Okay, I am really excited for this show now, haha! It’s fun to get a peek into the lives of others, especially other people who would rather have us think they’re perfect. 😉

I never realized it until now, my classroom management class from education school has really helped me out with parenting! It’s amazing what redirection and other techniques can do to help. Kids really do just want our approval and to get along. I will be digging out my book from the attic, so thanks! 🙂
