The Nextbook Premium7 is a 7″ capacitive touch-screen lightweight Android 2.3 tablet.
Some of the notable features on this new tablet include:
The Premium7 features built-in Wi-Fi, ASTRO File Manager, OfficeSuite Viewer, SlideME App manager and Kobo eBook Store. You can browse the internet, respond to emails, watch YouTube videos, listen to streaming Internet music and download applications – just about anything you want to do!
The Premium7 also includes a 1 GHz processor, 4GB of memory, a SD card slot, 25 pre-loaded books, an MP3/photo viewer, built-in speakers and G-sensor.
Seriously, what more do you need from a tablet, right? Right out of the box, the Premium7 impressed me. It booted up quickly and the initial setup (date, time, time zone) was very intuitive. It was responsive to my touch (no pressure needed) and moving from screen page to page was smooth and quick.
I am very new to the Android market, actually having just purchased my first Android smart phone a few days before this arrived. I was very pleased to find that this tablet functions almost identically to my phone (without the calling feature of course). After downloading the Amazon Marketplace, I spent at least an hour downloading free apps to use and play with. There is everything imaginable out there… cooking, games, weight trackers, run keepers… heck, even a farting fish game (yes… we downloaded it and the kids were highly amused).
Navigating the internet was a breeze. The Wi-Fi set up quickly with just a password and easily connected to my home network. With a light touch on the Google toolbar an onboard keyboard popped up on the screen. With a turn of the tablet, the G-sensor turned the screen and elongated the keyboard making text input a much easier task for me (big fingers). The web functions just like my home computers (and almost as quickly!) allowing me to check my email, watch YouTube, check on the blog (approve comments etc.), read Facebook, Tweet on Twitter and so on… all from the comfort of my bed.
The Premium7 comes with a pre-loaded e-book reader and bookstore and also includes 25 FREE e-books. It’s like having your ereader and your computer melded into one unit! Do you start 3-5 books all at the same time? Imagine not ever having to choose which book to leave the house with, but having your entire library at the touch of your finger.
Did I forget to mention that the Premium7 also has a photo viewer, MP3 player and a video player? Now we have our ereader, computer, mp3 player and portable video player all melded into one unit.
I have always drooled and wondered what it would be like to own a tablet. I have to say, it is a fun toy and a great extension for me to keep on top of my email, Facebook and blog while out at McDonalds with the kids (they have Wi-Fi, did you know that?) or simply lounging in bed. I can keep myself and my children occupied at the doctor’s office with game apps, read a book anywhere I please, listen to music and so much more. Heck, with my smart phone I can even tether the two and be on the internet anywhere I please (or so I’ve heard… still need to try that one)!
