Mint Automatic Hard Floor Cleaner Review

Let me introduce you to the Mint Automatic Hard Floor Cleaner. This little “robot” sweeps and mops your hard floor surfaces better than ever before… all without you lifting a broom or mop.

When we moved into our house 10 years ago the only hard surface was the wood floor in the kitchen. Over the years we have slowly replaced a lot of our carpeted surfaces with wood. It was time to replace the carpet and wood is much easier to keep clean (and you can see if it’s clean) and has a much longer use life.

Both of our living areas and our kitchen are now floored with wood. With Emma and Ethan still being young, our floors are constantly needing to be swept. Yes, I admit it… I am a “traveling food” Momma. My kids are allowed to have their snacks in the living rooms but there are some days I regret allowing that. When I heard about the Mint Cleaner I was excited to try a fully automated product that “sweeps” the floors for me while I go about my day with the kids.

The Mint Cleaner came with everything seen above. It uses either reusable cloths (it comes with a sweeping cloth and a mopping cloth) or disposable ones (dry or wet) like Swiffer, Pledge and off brands. That cube you see on the right side is the GPS tracking device that helps the Mint keep track of everywhere it’s been so it cleans every inch of your flooring. I put the batteries in the GPS and plugged the Mint in to charge. The wait for it to fully charge was excruciating because I was so excited to see what the Mint could do for me!

Once fully charged, my first order of business was to sweep the floor. This had been done manually earlier in the day, but with two kitties and two messy kids my floors are in constant need of sweeping. I laid the reusable cloth out flat, placed the pad holder on top and pushed the ends into the holes (just like on a Swiffer sweeper). The cloth holder has strong magnets on it that hold it in place on the Mint so I quickly placed the holder in place, put the GPS in a central area on the counter, turned the GPS unit on and pressed the sweep button on the Mint. That’s it. That is all I had to do to sweep my floor.

I stood and watched the Mint navigate the corners, turns and obstacles in my kitchen while it swept the floor. I was amazed how a little machine could be so “intelligent”.  You can see one of the reasons I need the Mint in the photo above. Mocha wasn’t sure if this was a large white mouse or another remote control car that the kids torture the kitties with.

In the end the Mint did a great job of picking up the hair and dust that had accumulated throughout the day. If this was a disposable Swiffer cloth I would just pull it off and toss it. Cleaning the reusable cloth wasn’t a pain, though. I rinsed in under the water in the sink, added a little Dawn and rubbed. It air dried over the water faucet overnight and was ready for the next days use.
I didn’t take photos, but the next day I used the Mint to mop my floors. I was a skeptic. I didn’t think the Mint could mop the floor and leave it as clean and shiny as mopping it by hand. I put the wet reusable cloth on the holder, attached it to the Mint with the magnets, turned the GPS on and pressed the mopping button on the unit.
I was surprised that the cleaning action for mopping is more thorough and meticulous than the sweeping motion. You can see in the video below how Mint purposefully goes over the area a couple of times before moving on… almost like a scrubbing motion. It did a fabulous job in the first area of my kitchen, but then the cloth dried out a bit and it needed to be remoistened.
I also tried to squirt the floor with a squirt and mop solution and let the Mint do the work, but because it is so thorough it took longer than expected to get to the furthest area and the solution dried on the floor. I have since learned to only squirt part of the floor at a time and when the Mint hits a certain area I then squirt more. I have also restricted the Mint to a smaller area by putting a broom across the doorway. Having it mop in smaller areas helps me make sure the pad is still moist and if I put solution down, it doesn’t dry before getting mopped up.
All of features of the Mint Cleaner work together fabulously to help keep your floor tidy and clean.

  • Guided by the NorthStar® Navigation System, Mint tracks where it cleans so it doesn’t miss a spot.
  • Mint can both dry sweep dust, dirt and hair and wet mop to get out deeper dirt and grime from your hard surface floors.
  • It is super easy to operate. Simply attach a cleaning cloth, set Mint down and press either the Sweep or Mop button.
  • After cleaning, just throw out disposable cloths or rewash and reuse the included microfiber cloths designed just for Mint.
  • Mint is ideal for picking up pet hair every day, but its whisper-quiet operation means your pets won’t be bothered while Mint cleans.
  • Mint’s compact size gets under furniture, into tight spaces and other hard to reach places.
  • PerfectEdge™ technology allows Mint to clean right along walls and edges, and around chair legs and other obstacles for a complete clean.
  • Mint’s smart sensors avoid stairs, area rugs and raised transitions to carpet.

I want one for my mom. She has hardwood floors throughout her house and swiffers everyday and mops once a week. It is just her and dad they are both in their seventies. I think this would give her more time to enjoy her life instead of cleaning all the time. But then again I think she enjoys cleaning. I sure am not my mothers daughter there.

I have vinyl flooring I want one too !!

Do you think Mint would ever do a giveaway to give us poor people a chance at owning one?

    Awesome review!!!!!
