K’NEX MarioKart – Mario vs Piranha Plant Building Set Review

K’NEX MarioKart – Mario vs Piranha Plant Building Set

Mario Kart KNEX

Imaginations can soar with the K’NEX Mario Kart Mario vs Piranha Plant Building Set.  With 126 pieces, your children can build Yoshi, a sprinter kart, a Lava Plume obstacle and two collectible items.  It includes 6 pieces of track to race the car on.  This track can connect to other Wii K’NEX racing sets to make one huge race track.  Ages 6+  Requires 2 AA batteries.

My son, Micah, (age 12), is at the age where most toys don’t really interest him anymore.  He still enjoys playing with K’NEX & Legos, though, so I figured he would like the MarioKart – Mario vs Piranha Plant Building Set.  As soon as he got it, he put it together fairly quickly.  The instructions are step-by-step with pictures, so it’s not too confusing.

Micah started racing it & had a good time scaring the dog with the race car.  His sisters (ages 5 & 9) got involved too & they all had fun racing it on the track.  He loved that it would drive on it’s own.  Most of his current cars are just the push kind, or remote control.  This is different, so it made it more fun.  Also, the fact that it has Mario, is always a bonus!

Overall, Micah likes this toy & brings it out occasionally to play, but he wishes it made a complete circle/loop without having to buy the other sets.  It’s very creative & he loves that it’s Mario, but chances are, he would probably use it more if it had the entire race track all in one set.  But, I’m not the kind of mom to go out & buy all the different sets of anything, so he will just have to deal with it!  lol

I think this toy would be great for any kid over age 6.  It’s fairly easy to assemble & I love that you get some MarioKart characters with it. It sort of brings to life the video games.

i think my daughter would really like this-she loves legos and mario, so this would be a great set! although i agree with you and think it should come as a complete circle.

  2. I think my nephew would love this. He is interested in building things. My boys loved Legos as they were growing up.

My son loves Mario and this looks great. However just as you said they need the complete circle. Their way of making people spend more money, when they clearly could have included another yellow track to make the full circle.
