Keeping our family connected with Skype

Our family has four children… really two sets of children. Our oldest set are 21 and 16. Our youngest set are 6 1/2 and almost 5. Although they are all in vastly different stages of life, the bond is incredibly strong between them… especially between the two youngest and my oldest daughter, Kaytlin.

Several weeks ago, Kaytlin, my oldest daughter moved an hour and a half away to college. Apparently this has not only devastated myself, but it has affected my Emma. She has been leaving messages like the one below on the driveway where Kaytlin usually parks.

Not only am I dealing with the heartbreak of my first born moving away, growing up, not needing her Mommy (as much) and becoming an adult… my heart is breaking for Emma. Although Kaytlin is a short drive away from us it stills feels so far away. The house is quieter, her room is empty and the dynamics of the house are changing.

Fortunately our family can talk face to face any time we want with just the click of a button. Skype is a communication software that is free to download and available for both PC and Mobile devices. It is so easy to use and has allowed Emma to share little milestones with her big sister like her first wiggly tooth (photo above). It’s amazing how connected we feel with her even when she’s an hour and a half away. Seeing her smiling face when I miss her most makes my heart smile.

Skype is a great way to keep in contact with ppl all over! great invention!

    • The best part is it’s FREE! It saved this mom from freaking out when her firstborn left the nest.

  3. Aww poor Emma 🙁 That’s so sad, it must be so hard for her to understand. So glad though that you all can keep in touch this way, that’s awesome. And it’s great that she’s only an hour and a half away. That’s close enough to drive anytime you want. ((hugs))

My brother lives in MA and we live in NY. We love to Skype with him, it allows my daughter to be able to know her uncle and ut allows him to be able to watch his niece grow up 🙂
