I have always been one of “those moms” that chases down her children to make sure they put their helmets on. I tend to err on the side of caution and I figure if a simple helmet can help prevent an irreversible injury then why doesn’t everyone wear one?

When Joovy announced they had a new adjustable helmet for little guys I was excited and curious. My children have abnormally large heads. Yes, seriously. So big that one had a CT scan and the other an ultrasound to check for fluid collection when they were very little. All was well, they all just have extra fluid on the outside of their brain for extra padding Winking smile. Even with extra fluid, I still feel the need to protect their head with a bike helmet.

Our Noodles arrived and I eagerly tried them on both Emma (age 6) and Ethan (age 4). I guess I should have measured their heads first because I soon found out the helmets were indeed too small for them. The Noodle helmet is geared for children 1-4 years old and with a head size of 18.5 – 20.5 inches. As you can see, my 4 year old has a 21.5 head circumference!

The feedback from the other Joovy Moms was overwhelming… they all loved the Noodle and some even said it fit children in their family up to 8 years old! I knew I needed to find homes for these beauties… so I asked my sister in law if I could borrow her babies.

I asked Maddie (age 3) if I could give her a new hat and she gasped with glee and said, “YES!”. She was grinning ear to ear as I put the Noodle on her and adjusted the strap in back. I was very pleased with how easy this was. Our typical experience with bicycle helmets includes putting it on and off several times to add pads, removes pads and adjust straps. The helmet slid on Maddie’s head easily, snapped under her chin and I rotated the the knob behind her head until the helmet was snug and wouldn’t wobble from side to side or front to back (which would make it less effective).

Maddie was over the moon with her new helmet and wore it while riding her bike… and continued to wear it throughout the afternoon even though it was warm out because she loved it so much! You never know what might fall on your head while playing in the sandbox, right?

I then went on a hunt to find her baby brother, Liam (1 y/o). Again I had the same experience putting it on… it was super easy to adjust and once on it didn’t slide around. Now his Mom & Dad can take him on tandem bike rides knowing his noggin is protected.

Liam’s Mom took his helmet off when she put him on the mat to play, but he had other plans. He apparently loved his Noodle so much he spent the next hour trying to put it back on!

Joovy has pulled out all the stops while constructing the Joovy Noodle. It features 14 air vents, integrated bug mesh in the front vents, extended visor for maximum protection, nylon straps, pinch guard chin strap, and an easy to use adjustable fit dial.  It comes in blueberry, red, greenie, pink or black and will grow with your little one for years to come (unless you have monster headed children like I do). I would LOVE for Joovy to expand their age range by adding another size for the Noodle to fit older children as well. Now that Emma is riding a 2 wheeler I find it even more important for her to protect her head than ever.

My kids really need new helmets, they have been begging to get out their bikes, but their helmets are too small!
