Holiday Gift Guide | Joovy Nook High Chair Review

Holiday Gift Guide | Joovy Nook High Chair Review

High Chairs are a must have when you have a baby. I was THRILLED to hear that I was going to review a Joovy Nook. I’m not a fan of animal prints or fancy patterns. I like simple, functional and color…I LOVE bright bold colors so the orange and green Joovy Nook sure caught my eye!  If you prefer more neutral colors the Nook also comes in a sleek black and a fresh, clean, crisp white.

I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box and pulled out the chair.  There isn’t a single thing you need to assemble… Joovy sends you an absolutely pre-assembled chair. Even the chair cover is on! Our green leatherette Nook high chair was gorgeous and I was eager to use it. You can imagine my joy when it took like 10 seconds to take it out of the box and open it up …the chair was ready to be used!

The first thing I noticed was the room and fit. McKenna just turner 2 and weighs about 29 lbs, (the chairs max weight is 50 lbs). Adjusting the 5 point harness straps was easy and I loved how roomy it was for her. She has plenty of growing room yet in this chair.

Ease of cleaning is super important to me. The leatherette cleans with a simple wipe down and it’s back to looking new again. When it’s time for a deep cleaning the whole leatherette cover is easily removable. Joovy thought of everything and made all of the fasteners velcro… it’s fast and easy to remove and put back on. The cover can be washed in the washing machine, cold wash on gentle, and then hung to dry. This is so convenient and handy when you have your hands full with little ones.

One of my favorite features of this chair is pure genius. When you take your child out, where do you put the tray? It’s dirty and you don’t want anything falling on the floor causing more mess. The Joovy Nook has a swing open tray! Yes… that mean it stays attached . No more looking for a place to set it while your wiggly toddler is trying to climb down on her own. With one hand you press a button underneath the tray and it releases and you can swing it open. When you are ready to clean it there is another release on the other side you press and pull up. This releases the tray from the chair and it’s ready for cleaning.

The tray also comes with an insert that snaps into place on the fixed tray. The best part about the insert is that it is dishwasher safe and it actually DOES fit in the dishwasher! If you are feeding a particularly messy meal insert the tray and when she’s done eating unsnap it and plop it in the dishwasher. Easy cleanup!

Space is at a premium in most kitchens and dining rooms. Having a huge bulky high chair open 24 hours a day makes the room feel cluttery. The biggest feature of this chair is its compact folding. With a super easy one-handed action it folds very flat and compact. So compact it is only 9.5″ high when laying flat. It’s so simple, fast and easy that it’s not a chore to take it down and store it away after every meal. Opening the high chair for use is a one-handed job as well. Being able to scoot the Nook into a corner or even in the pantry closet opens the room back up. When folded there is a nice convenient handle to carry it with you from place to place with a weight of only 15 lbs.

Looking a little further down the chair, the foot rest is fairly low. It’s low enough that my 2-year-old just reaches. It is non adjustable, but this doesn’t detract from all of the other fabulous features of the Nook. The chair does not recline but for my needs that’s not a concern for me. I would think with side props a younger baby would still be able to sit well. The only thing I would tweak if I could is the tray positions. I would love it if the tray would slide closer to your baby when they are strapped in the chair. As it is there is a bit of a gap between baby and tray for food to fall.

Of all the chairs I have tried, this is my favorite! From the contemporary sleek design, compact one-handed folding, swing open tray, safe 5 point harness, to the easy cleaning. We give the Joovy Nook two thumbs up!

Oh my gosh, what an excellent review! Your photos are extremely helpful and McKenna is such a good model. This is going to help out a lot of moms. Tweeting about this now!

  2. I love this high chair! I love that it folds up so easy! I could use this one when the grandkids come over – then fold it up and store it until their next visit! And the color!! I LOVE that green!!

That looks like a super awesome high chair.. nothing like what we had when my kiddos were small! I love how easy it looks to clean, and it’s very stylish. Your daughter is the cutest in that last photo.. love the thumbs up! lol

  4. First let me say that your daughter is adorable!!! I love that this high chair comes in solid patterns because I too think they fit much better with our decor then patterned ones. I also like that it comes pre-assembled and folds down so easily. This is now on my list for when baby #2 comes 🙂

  5. I love that it comes already assembled! Sometimes having to assemble is far more hassle than I want, even with a great product. The removable tray is awesome too; ours had that and it made cleaning up after meals SO much easier!

  6. That is just so awesome! Wish I would have had one like that when mine were little. Mine was a big wooden High Chair and It was so hard to find a place to keep it in the kitchen, where it wasn’t in the way. Thanks for sharing.
