Ethan loves to play with Emma’s kitchen, but I had always thought to myself, “Why don’t they have playsets for little guys?”. We went through the same situation with Josh. He would play with Kaytlin’s kitchen for hours on end. When Step2 offered to let me review the Home Depot Big Builders Workshop Playset I was beyond thrilled!
Taking it out of the box I found three large pieces, a peg board, a square board, stickers and foam “wood” pieces. Assembly was fairly simple with the exception of a few angles that required screws. Take note that none of the screw holes are predrilled. I suggest an electric screwdriver or drill with screwdriver bit.
Within half an hour I had all the pieces together, the stickers on and the wood pieces punched out of the form. This is a good sized playset comparable to Emma’s kitchen. The quality is top notch, just like you would expect from Step2 and it is nice and sturdy.
The pegboard is functional and a great place to store the hand tools (included). There is a functioning light right above the pegboard, great for illuminating the work area below. The ledges are a nice place to put the screws while they are working and the vice actually works to help study everything while you are working.
The other side has more work space as well as a cup holder. As you can see, there is a nice pile of foam “wood” to work with. The set came with an instruction sheet to build a birdhouse… I can’t wait to try putting it together with Ethan!
Below you will find bins for screws, wood etc. Ethan even gets a shop fridge so he can add some “snacks” and drinks to his playset. There is more than enough room for everything and I can see a lot of arranging and re-arranging in Ethan’s future.
I am beyond thrilled with this Home Depot Big Builders Workshop Playset. Step2 has taken the traditional kitchen design and converted it to a workshop for little guys to try their hand at hammering, driving screws and using the power drill to assemble works of “art”. They left the fridge (what guy doesn’t want a fridge in his workshop?) and added storage areas so when it’s time to clean up, the “shop” doesn’t look cluttery.
