Earth Divas Fair Trade Made Purses
I first heard of Earth Divas from my daughter Kaytlin. She works at her college bookstore and had mentioned some adorable bags that were recently stocked. She was considering purchasing it for herself, but decided to put it on her Christmas list instead. Kaytlin loved that they were fair trade items as well as their design/aesthetics. Earth Divas returns 100% of their profits to the artisans that created the bags at the end of the year. After some reading about Earth Divas values I realized that every bag purchased truly makes a difference to a woman in India or Nepal!
I also found out that Earth Divas bags were in the bookstore because of their fabulous affiliate program. Earth Divas have many reps around the country, many of whom are mothers who work at home, selling Earth Divas bags locally to health food stores, university book stores, yoga stores, etc. (Here’s the link if you are interested in their affiliate program). Just another way Earth Divas is helping even more women live a better life.
Earth Divas products are handmade, natural fiber, fair trade accessories made by women for women from around the world. We currently have items from Nepal and are adding jewelry from Columbia and hemp bags from Thailand. We hope that by next year we can offer products from several other countries.
Our natural fiber, handmade accessories from Kathmandu, Nepal are made by working women’s co-ops and small woman-owned cottage industry producers. We work directly with the people that make these items. We help them source supplies like zippers, rings and buckles, and provide feedback on designs and offer suggestions to improve quality. We work directly with and pay the people that make the items, we don’t work through a middleman, which is fairly common. My wife is from India, and each year for the last four years she and I have spent about a month in India, and I have spent a couple of weeks in Nepal working on new designs and trying to figure out better ways to make the core items that we will always have, like wallets, backpacks, hats and coin purses.
Earth Divas sent Kaytlin this tie dyed fringe bag she had been admiring in her store. One of her favorite features was that the shoulder strap is adjustable from 16” to 26”, letting it hang at her hips. Kaytlin has always been a fan of tie dye so the fact that the fringe is tie dyed is a huge bonus for her. The main compartment measures 11” H x 15” w x 3.5” D giving her plenty of room for the items she likes to tote around.
I was very impressed with this purse. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect with a fair trade/hand made bag, but the stitching and seams are quality work and if the Earth Divas hang tag explaining fair trade hadn’t been attached I never would have guessed. I love that Kaytlin’s love of bags/purses can help another woman on the other side of the world and would definitely encourage her to purchase from Earth Divas for her next indulgence.
You can purchase the Tie Dyed Fringe Bag for $29.99 (but hurry… it mentions they only have 2 in stock!)
