#HGG Otterbox iPad2 Defender & Reflex Series Case Review [CLOSED Giveaway]

Otterbox iPad2 Defender & Reflex Covers

Christmas oftentimes means new electronic goodies for the grown ups. My electronic toy this year is an iPad2. I finally received one and I was determined to protect it with the best cover on the market. I immediately thought of Otterbox. Have you seen an Otterbox drop test? They make you flinch and grimace but it’s amazing that an electronics product can survive a drop like that (you can view them on YouTube).

After speaking to Otterbox we decided to give both the Defender Series and the Reflex Series a try.

Otterbox Defender Series

The OtterBox Defender Series for Apple iPad 2 is part of our most rugged line of cases, utilizing multi-layer technology and designed to withstand just about any environment. Don’t worry about losing any access or functionality by wrapping your iPad 2 in the Defender Series; we’ve designed it so you can use all of the iPad’s features right through the case. The inner polycarbonate shell has a foam interior to protect the back of your iPad from scratching, while the durable silicone skin works its magic by absorbing shock. The clip-on touch screen cover has a fold-out stand that offers up a convenient viewing and typing experience! Please note: This case is NOT compatible with the optional iPad 2 dock.

The Defender case immediately reminded me of my iPod Touch case. The interior case reminds me of a plastic cocoon. It is then sealed with a silicone skin that wraps around the edges and keeps everything together. The screen is not covered by the bottom case at all, but the self adhering screen protector that Otterbox includes does a great job of keeping your screen safe during use. The main protection for your screen during transport/non-use is the clip on screen cover.
Once your case is all put together and the screen covered is snapped on your iPad2 feels indestructible. This is a super sturdy case that gives you a great sense of protection. All of the ports and buttons are still accessible/usable and the screen cover doubles as a stand for perfect viewing and typing angles. My only wish would be that the screen cover would not have the curves around the edges. There are a few small areas of the screen that feel vulnerable to me when the cover is on. I am still in love with the confidence this case gives me, though, and it is the only way I allow my children to play with my iPad2 without Mommy holding it. And the bonus… the Apple logo is fully viewable. If you are an Apple addict like me, you totally understand what I mean.

Otterbox Reflex Series Case

Looking for an iPad 2 case that offers the perfect balance of protection and contemporary styling? Stop your search here! The OtterBox Reflex Series for iPad 2offers front and back device coverage in a sleek package, preventing scratches and keeping your new toy clean and safe from drops. This case has it all: A touch screen shield that doubles as a viewing/typing stand, access to all buttons and controls (including the camera lens), plus the simple design makes docking your iPad 2 easy and fast. That’s not all; the unique audio pathway redirects sound toward you for excellent listening pleasure!

The second case Otterbox sent me to review is the Reflex Series. To be honest, I initially thought I wouldn’t like this case. I mean, I wanted complete and total protection. How could something thinner, lighter and simpler provide enough protection to gain my complete confidence?
I was wrong. Totally wrong.
Sliding the case on the iPad2 was a breeze. It’s two pieces that join at the center and then the cover. Again, your screen is not covered by the case itself, but the self adhering protector supplied by Otterbox does a great job of protecting your screen during use. Super simple to put together. I immediately loved the feel of the Reflex case in my hands. It was thinner and more natural feeling than the Defender. The cover is simple to put on and take off and doubles easily as a viewing or typing stand. After using it for several days I felt just as confident using this case as I did with the Defender.
My only vain wish for this case was a viewing circle so I could see the Apple logo. Really… we paid big bucks for that… I wanna see it, right? Winking smile

In the end, I loved both cases. With the Defender Series I had instant complete and total confidence in it. It has bulk to it, the silicone edging holds everything together and gives it a little padding to absorb shock, and it feels solid. The Reflex Series case was a simple assembly, had a more natural feel to it and has just as much protection. I am not as confident as the gentleman in the video (I refuse to drop my precious iPad2), but I feel protected. I think for everyday use I will stick with the Reflex and when/if I travel (like I did to Atlanta) I will use the Defender for a better sense of security.

My ultimate wish for both cases… I would love a few color selections. I would love love love a pink case *hint hint*.
