Many of you will remember the original “water slide” that was so popular when we were children. It was pretty basic… a piece of plastic and some water squirting to make it slippery. It has evolved some since my childhood, but I’ve seen the new version in use and they still tend to tear up the lawn, leave the kids muddy and sore.
When I saw the Super Water Slide from Hearthsong I was intrigued. I have been looking for more outdoor ideas for my children and Ethan was having a birthday party soon. I was trying to accumulate enough fun water activities to keep all the children involved as the age range of attendees was anywhere from 10 months to 14 years.
I really liked that the “slide” was padded. I remember the bumps and bruises on my tummy and legs as a kid. I kept sliding, but they hurt like heck later. I also liked the pool at the end. What’s more fun than a big splash of water in the face, right? lol
So we set it up, greeted our guests and soon made our way to the backyard. The babies were set up in a wading pool, there was a water table for the pirate enthusiasts and a bigger kiddie pool for the kids that grew tired of the water slide.
We got the kids lined up, turned on the water and let them have fun. At first, I heard a few “that hurt”s, but as soon as the slide was a bit more slick and the kids figured out the best way to belly flop onto the runway they had a blast. They even started moving the line further and further back so they could get a good run at it.
Emma, Ethan and Josh all took a turn (or several) while the water slide was running. All of them (and our guests) enjoyed the cooling effect and the sliding fun.
