Essential Oils to Help with Sleepless Nights

A good night’s sleep is one of the keys to a good health. Sleep really is responsible for keeping so many of our other systems running properly. Being able to sleep through the night is natural for us, until we are unable to do so, which can cause even more stress. There are a lot of factors that keep us from sleeping, and many of them are beyond our control. There are things you can control and change, or essential oils that you can start using to help with sleepless nights.

These are some of the best and most often used essential oils to help deal with sleepless nights. Many people use them regularly because of the calm atmosphere that they promote right before bedtime.

Valerian Essential Oil

Valerian essential oil is one of those natural plant remedies that has been used for ages to help those dealing with sleep issues. Not only does it help improve the ability to fall asleep, but it promotes a calm and peaceful state when nerves are seriously frazzled or you have just been through an upsetting episode.

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender essential oil is best diffused in a bedroom a couple hours prior to bed, or used in a bath or shower taken in the evening. This essential oil is used for all types of reasons, but it is best known for reducing stress levels, one of the leading causes of insomnia.

Bergamot Essential Oil

Bergamot is a citrus based essential oil, which are not the first things people consider when they look for a sleep aid. However, bergamot is light, slightly more floral, but still crisp. Most citrus essential oils work in opening up restricted blood vessels, leading to muscle and headache relief which is what anyone with muscle pain or a headache could use.

Sandalwood Essential Oil

Sandalwood has been used for health and meditation for over 4,000 years because of its ability to promote peace and bring focus. One of the healing properties it has that helps with sleep is the ability to act as a decongestant. If you are suffering from allergies or other head and nasal blockage, preventing sleep, sandalwood essential oil is a great oil to diffuse.

Chamomile Essential Oil

Chamomile essential oil works in much the same way the floral tea does to help promote a good night’s sleep. Chamomile not only helps you calm and de-stress, but it improves the quality and length of sleep that is needed by the body. Use chamomile topically, around the nasal passages and neck before bedtime.
