Early Spring Cleaning | Replacing What Doesn’t Work

A gift card was received, all opinions are my own.

The temperatures here in Missouri are finally hitting the 70 degree range. The windows are finally open, the birds are chirping, trees and flowers are budding up. Ahhhhhh SPRING!

It’s amazing how my attitude and focus changes with the weather/temperature change. Now, I am itching to start Spring cleaning!

Part of my Spring cleaning process is to evaluate each of my rooms. What is working, what is not. What is trash or donation, what stays but needs to be moved somewhere else, and what simply needs to be replaced. My evaluation of the kitchen had an immediate red flag. My small white plastic trash can that we use for recycling (we have one sort recycling here) was inadequate and just plain ugly.

About a year and a half ago I reviewed the Simplehuman stainless steel trash can pictured above. We have been very satisfied with it as it still looks and functions as well as the first day it arrived. I knew it was time to start shopping for a similar can for my recycling.

I had recently been online browsing through Kohls.com and was partially surprised to see an entire section dedicated to storage and organization. I say partially only because although I never really noticed these items at the brick and mortar store. I guess it didn’t surprise me that their online store carried so many fabulous items to help organize our lives.

While I window shopped and daydreamed about all of the ways I could de-clutter and organize with these items I found that they had a trash can section. Click, wait for the page to load… oh I’m a happy girl! Kohls.com had a full page of stainless steel trash cans to choose from.

I decided to go with Simplehuman again because I have been beyond happy with my current can. I purchased the 13 gallon rectangular step trash can and it went perfectly in the spot I had for it. Although the trash cans are not identical they compliment each other and I no longer have the black trash bag lined white plastic can sticking out like a sore thumb.

With a little extra money to spend, I am still window shopping for another spring cleaning/organizational fix. There is just so much to choose from! Decisions… decisions.

I’ll be back soon to share what other item I purchased!

I really like the trash cans that you got together in your kitchen. I need to organize my pantry because it is a mess. I would like to get your trash cans to make my kitchen look better. Thanks for the tip.

    • Oh Julie… don’t remind me. UGH! My pantry is in shambles. My kind husband will organize it every once in a while but I really need pull out drawers so the stuff in back doesn’t get forgotten like it does now. He’s slowly working his way up for me… the bottom 2 of the 5 shelves now have drawers. It’s a space saver, that’s for sure!

  2. I definitely need to look into investing in a good trashcan. With a family of five, you can imagine how much use it gets.

    • I totally do Marcie! We are a family of six 🙂 . The main trash can I use for “trash” is actually a trash/recycler that I took the recycle bin part out of to expand it’s capacity. Instead of emptying the trash daily, it’s every 1 1/2 to 2 days now.

I’ve been thinking of getting a sensor trash can like this as well, just looks so clean and modern. Who knew a trash can can be so pretty!

I agree that the 2 cans complement each other and add a sleek design element to the kitchen. I am curious what other item you purchased

I would love to have a simplehuman trash can. They are so nice looking but to pricy for me. Maybe someday I will be able to afford one.

I love spring cleaning. I’ve also started as well despite the return to cold again after a brief warmer spell. Usually i start with just de-cluttering and throwing things away. I like that idea of evaluating what isn’t working and just place it and make life easier!

(Early Spring Cleaning | Replacing What Doesn’t Work) I had started my Spring cleaning also, only to come down with a bad cold. Spring cleaning if off for right now. I do always check fans and things of that type of things we will use in the Summer to make sure they are still working properly.
