Welcome to the “Look Who’s 3!” Birthday Bash
Ethan loves his Cars movie. The DVD case is becoming ratty because he plays with it while he watches the movie. Up until now, we didn’t have a single Cars toy in the house. When the box arrived and I peeked inside Ethan instantly recognized the familiar red packaging from across the room and squealed “Are those Cars?!”.
First out of the box were the die cast vehicles.
Francesco Bernoulli and Holley Shiftwell are the new “lights & sounds” die cast. Complete with real working headlights, revving sounds and signature phrases from the film these are available in 12 different characters. 1:55 die-cast scale with a retail of $7.99 each… geared for ages 4+
Lightning McQueen and Finn McMissile are collectible character die-cast vehicles. These are available in a wide assortment of Cars 2 including Mator and new characters from the film. These are also in the new in 1:55 scale, retail for $4.99 each and are geared for ages 3+.
Ethan has hit the jackpot. He can now mingle his obsession with die cast cars with his adoration of “Cars” the movie. He squealed when he saw Lightning McQueen, but when he found out that Holley and Francesco talked he was obsessed with them all day. Ethan normally puts every single one of his die cast vehicles in his back pack and walks around with them on his back but the Cars 2 vehicles have been receiving special undivided attention for some time now. As you can see above, they are even joining Ethan at bedtime.
The Secret Spy Attack Finn McMissile is a fully loaded “top secret” spy vehicle with weapons, firing missiles, sound effects and thrilling transformations. Now kids can relive favorite Cars 2 moments and create new adventures with Finn McMissile. Retail is $29.99 and it is geared for ages 4+
I was a little concerned that possibly this car a little too complicated for Ethan. Getting the secret compartments to open and function was an easy lesson for him, but as he is only turning 3 this month I thought that getting the car back to “undercover mode” would be difficult. We spent probably 5 minutes at the table opening and shutting Finn until he had it mastered. Ethan thinks this car is the coolest thing ever and even carries it around the house tucked under his arm when not being played with. Just today he had a huge crying fit at nap time because I didn’t know where Finn was and he had to have it in bed with him (see photo above with the die cast cars).
I do need to say that I did not give Ethan the small red missiles that go into the guns. I am sure these would be a lot of fun for older children to use, but I just knew it would be a form of frustration at our house and they would get lost quickly. Also, if you are anti-violent toys for your children… both of the secret compartments have guns in them. Ethan hasn’t even noticed what they are… he is thrilled with the green goggles that pop out over the cars eyes.
Last out of the box was the Tokyo Spinout Track Set. Little racers will speed, jump, spin and be part of Lightning McQueen’s stunt defying race. You can load up to two Cars into the dual launchers and watch the vehicles zip toward the elevated spinning platform and whirl above the roaring river below. Set includes one die cast vehicle, retails for $29.99 and is geared for ages 4+.
This is Emma and Ethan’s first exposure to any type of track set. It took me about 5 minutes to assemble and we were ready to play. This is geared for children 4 and up and I understand why now. See the two blue poles in the middle with the clear containers on the end? If you watch the video you will see that they spin to bring the cars to the lower track. The kids instinctively grabbed the poles to pull them straight back, but you need to push on the lower end of the pole so it will spin and stay aligned. After showing Emma a few times she did get the hang of it and the kids had a great time sending the cars off one at a time or at the same time as a race.
Watch Emma & Ethan play with Tokyo Spinout…
