Are You Raising An Adventurous Kid? | 5 Ways to Get Your Kids Outside

kids climbingAre You Raising An Adventurous Kid?

When I was little, I remember begging to go outside to play with the neighborhood children the minute I was done with breakfast and wasn’t ready to settle down inside until the sun set after dinner. I would be exhausted, smelly, dirty and very happy.

I had the opportunity to write a guest post on this topic that includes 5 ways to  get your kids outside over at Jen and Barb, Mom Life … a site dedicated to sharing original online videos all about being in the trenches of motherhood. The topic this week is raising an adventurous kid.

Check out this great video were Jen and Barb discuss what happened to the good old days when kids clamored to be outside and how to encourage your kids to be more adventurous.

We are lucky the past 11 years we live in an active neighborhood where there are a lot of kids the same age, so are always on the move.

  56. anna says

    I follow her lead!

  57. clynsg says

I raised one very adventurous kid and another who was somewhat more cautious–it was a balancing act to encourage one to follow her wishes to experience things and still keep her safe and to encourage the other to spread her wings a little more. Yes. Right now they are still little enough that they have to fear (lovely, lol) so I am the one who is checking the safety of their activities, but when they want to try to climb something or jump off it or go romping through the muck, I’m surprised at how well they have already gauged their abilities and it is rare that I have to intervene in some way.

    • Katie Rose says

      that should be NO fear!

  171. Tamar says

My son’s adventures (he’s only 3 and we live in NYC) involves running away from mommy and daddy in the street. That’s scary as heck for us so I’d say yes. We’re moving to the burbs and will have a yard to let him continue his adventurous pursuits
