Saving Mr Banks Blu Ray Combo Pack

Chances are, if you’re a Disney fan, you’ve already seen Saving Mr. Banks, the story of how P.L. Travers’ book Mary Poppins transitioned from a story based on her youth to the Disney spectacular we all know and love today. (Unless you’re like me and have young kids at home and miss the majority of movies in theaters because babysitters are expensive.)

Either way, Disney fans (and movie fans in general) will want to grab Saving Mr. Banks on Blu-ray (in stores tomorrow, March 18th.)  And it’s not just because the movie is incredibly funny, heartwarming, nostalgic, tragic, and magical, but because the bonus features are worth a first (and second) look.

I’ll lay it out there: I’m not a bonus features person. I typically blow through them once, if at all, and never watch them again. When I purchase a movie digitally, I never wish I had purchased the DVD so I had access to bonus features. I always make sure to watch them when reviewing a movie, however, and I loved the bonus features on Saving Mr. Banks. They all add to the movie experience and for a Disney fan like myself, it’s a treat to have extra bits of Disney history and nostalgia in my home whenever I need a “practically perfect” dose of magic.

Bonus features on Saving Mr. Banks include:

  • The Walt Disney Studios: From Poppins to Present (Blu-ray & Digital HD) – Join Director John Lee Hancock on a tour of the Disney Studios lot, reflect on studio life during the making of Mary Poppins, and discover how Walt’s creative spirit still flourishes today.
  • Let’s Go Fly a Kite (Blu-ray & Digital HD) – Cast and crew sing break out in a rousing, heartfelt tribute to Composer Richard Sherman on the last day of filming.
  • Deleted Scenes:  Stargaze (Blu-ray & Digital HD) – A picture on Walt’s desk leads to a flashback of Pamela’s childhood.  Nanny Song (Blu-ray, DVD & Digital HD) – The Sherman Brothers perform a song for Pamela that she is less than thrilled with.  Pam Leaves (Blu-ray & Digital HD) – After yet another disagreement with Walt, Pamela leaves his office and heads for the airport.

My favorite bonus feature is the tour of the Disney Studios lot. I think I’ve watched it at least three times already. I’ve had the privilege to visit the lot a few times now, and it’s still surreal to walk around, knowing Walt Disney once walked there. I have a lot more to share about the Walt Disney Studios lot history and a look at some amazing Walt Disney and Marry Poppins facts in a post this Friday, so make sure you come back for more.
