Hidden Kisses | Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe

With Valentines Day right around the corner, I thought I would dig through my recipe box and see what I could find. I ran across this recipe that I had clipped from a magazine probably 20+ years ago… and never made.

So I gave it a chance… it combines chocolate chip cookies and Hershey’s Kisses… how could you go wrong, right?

The ingredients are super simple…

  • 1 bag (9 oz) Hershey’s Kisses
  • 1 cup butter softened
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (recipe called for mini… I only had regular on hand)

While your oven is heating to 375 degrees, have your helper remove the wrappers from the Kisses. Ethan enjoyed this as we only needed a small portion of the bag, so he ate them as he unwrapped.

Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla in a large bowl until well blended. Add flour to the butter mixture until smooth. Stir in chocolate chips.

Scoop about a tablespoon of the dough, pop in a Hershey’s Kiss and mold the dough into a ball around the Kiss.

Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until set. According to Ethan, 10 minutes was way too long.

Allow them to cool slightly and then remove them from the cookie sheet to a wire rack. Allow to cool completely and serve, or add the optional chocolate drizzle below.

  • Place 1/4 cup chocolate chips and 1 tsp shortening in a bowl and microwave on high 30 seconds. Stir. If necessary, microwave on high an additional 20 seconds or until chocolate chips are melted and mixture is smooth when stirred.

The family devoured these and asked for more. My mind was whirling…. I think dark chocolate chips and Kisses would be amazing, or maybe an almond Kiss. The choices are many!

Chocolate Chip Cookies with a Surprise Hershey’s Kiss Middle

Ingredients
  • 1 bag (9 oz) Hershey’s Kisses

Instructions
  1. * Heat oven to 375 degrees

  3. * Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla in a large bowl until blended.
  4. * Add flour to butter mixture until smooth.
  5. * Stir in chocolate chips
  6. * Mix for a good minute or so, until dry mix turns into a dough.
  7. * Mold tbsp of dough around Hershey’s Kiss
  8. * Bake 10-12 minutes or until set
  9. * Cool slightly, then remove from cookie sheet to wire rack.
  10. * Prepare chocolate drizzle if desired
  11. CHOCOLATE DRIZZLE

Ok, I have everything for these and will be making them today. Yummy is all I can say. I am the biggest sucker for anything sweet and I keep saying I am going to cut down on it. Hmmm, after these maybe.

My single batch made almost 2 dozen. They were gone in a day. I keep looking at my bag of Kisses thinking “Maybe another batch” but my scale keeps screaming at me. :)

Let me know when you do! I’d like to hear how they came out for you. One reader mentioned dry dough. Be sure to mix for a minute or so until it forms into a dough.

Well, here’s a question. I just made my first batch but while mixing, mine was dry and no dough formed at all. Was I suppose to put in eggs Heather? I ended up doing that and then I was able to for the dough around the kiss. I checked this so many times and did all you said but I was lost. Not sure what happened. I don’t see eggs in your pic or on the recipe. I have my first batch cooling and I ended up putting some nutella on top. Love that stuff

The recipe didn’t call for egg (which surprised me really… no soda or powder either). Was your butter soft? I used my Kitchenaid and let it mix for a little bit until the dough formed. How did it turn out with eggs?

It at least made a dough when I did it but before that, it was like everything was dry and I couldn’t wrap at all. My butter was softened when I did this. I took it out right when I read this. It may have helped with your kitchenaid as well. I don’t have one of them, just my regular mixer. The kids seem to really like them. I turned my back and my great nephew ate 4 of them

If you try them again… mix for a longer period of time before heading to eggs :). Mine was dry and crumbly for a minute or so and then it started forming a dough. Glad he liked them!

Holy cow, these look amazing! Hershey’s Kisses are a guilty pleasure of mine… if we have a bag lying around the house, it’s gone within a day. (Terrible for me, I know.) This recipe is getting pinned right now. :)

I am very good at making cookies. I can not make homemade cake or other desserts very well. I like this cookie recipe, and I love the Hershey’s kisses in the middle. They look so yummy. I would like to make these for Valentine’s Day. Thanks for the recipe.
