Tribeca & What I Wore | Eliza Parker Dress Review

It seems like just yesterday, but it’s been three weeks now since I attended the red carpet screening of the Avengers in NYC for the Tribeca Film Festival. When I was first invited I overwhelmed, excited and thrilled to have the opportunity. Then reality set in and I realized I had to get a dress for the red carpet. Not just a dress from “the marts”, but a stylish, chic, cocktail style dress. Because I am a plus sized gal, my search wasn’t as easy for me as it was for many of the other girls. I started my search online and, fortunate for me, I found Eliza Parker.

We acknowledge that not all plus size women’s bodies are the same. We developed the PerfectFit system to help you identify yourself with one of the five body types into which most plus size women fall. Once you have found your PerfectFit body type, you can search our site to find the most flattering products for you. You’ll find the silhouettes that are best for you by searching by body type name. Finally, a fast and easy way for you to find the right styles for you online!

After some sifting through their site I finally decided on the Venice Dress.

This little black dress is elegant for nearly any occasion.  Wear it to a cocktail party or wedding with your highest heels and statement jewelry.  Wear it to work with a simple camisole, black pumps, and a buckle belt.

  • Black
  • Falls to the knee
  • 3/4 sleeve
  • A-line skirt
  • Detachable black sash
  • Poly/Spandex
  • Fully Lined
  • Hand wash or dry clean
  • Made in the U.S.A.

Using the PerfectFit system I was able to determine the styles that would look best on me and then I was given a couple of pages of suggested items. I agree that the cross-over front has always been flattering for me and I decided that black would be suitable for any occasion, so I ordered and eagerly waited.

IMG_6034I was a bit pessimistic that ordering a dress, a special occasion dress at that, online in my size was going to work out for the good. As I took it out of the box and slowly put it on I quietly whispered “oh please, oh please, oh please” to myself. After a little adjusting I turned to look in the mirror. To my surprise, the dress fit and it was flattering! I tossed on my necklace and shoes and ran downstairs for Kaytlin to see. You can see from the smile on my face (picture to the right)… I had relief, excitement, and even some feelings of confidence running through me all at the same time.

The next morning it was time to get ready for the big event. After a little primping I slowly made my way down to the lobby. The entire day was going to be a whirlwind of interviews with a couple of the stars and then a quick dash to the event. Here I am in the lobby of the hotel gathering with the other girls (pic to the left)… all of us chatty and bubbling about each other dresses.

The dress was incredibly comfortable to wear all day with my only problem being an undergarment issue (wish I had planned my hose a bit better). I love how it looks like a wrap dress, but it really isn’t.

My only wish for this particular dress would be for a bit fuller skirt, and maybe a length option of midway between your knees and floor. I would have felt more comfortable having it a little longer as I don’t usually wear dresses.

My overall experience with Eliza Parker was incredible. From their PerfectFit guide, their extremely helpful email support, having the ability to see the dress on a plus sized woman in a video modeling all angles of the dress and the “try and buy” option of free shipping and returns my experience was painless and even enjoyable. That is unheard of in the plus sized world!

Eliza Parker offers plus sized dress, tops, skirts and accessories. I would recommend shopping their site first for any of your clothing needs.

I really LOVE this dress. The only thing I don’t like is that it’s dry clean or hand wash only. But I suppose all nice dresses are! 🙂
