Hand Print Art & Kids Crafts

I’ve recently run into this fabulous online craft supplies store, Factory Direct Craft, that has all of our crafting needs. The site is really cool with a variety of supplies and a great crafting blog full of creative things to do with the kids that you can actually turn into artwork! They have complicated ones that involve multiple steps and tools to simple ones that involve paints, ice trays and food coloring.

I let Emma and Ethan do all kinds of crafts, but handprint art is my favorite. When framed I have a piece of them frozen at that age. We’ve done similar things in the past… I have a Christmas tree we made out of the families hand prints (which reminds me, this needs to be redone now that Emma and Ethan are old enough to participate) that is hung every Christmas season. I’ve also done the 3D handprints with Kaytlin and Joshua at 5 years old.

Now that Emma is 5 I need to pick up the supplies to make her handprint too.
Some cool handprint art projects I’ve found that are on my “to do” list are a ballerina tutu, elephant hands, butterfly feet (okay, so it’s feet… same principle and adorable), thumbprint tree and I can’t wait to do this for Emma’s kindergarten teacher… a handprint apron.

Factory Direct Craft allows me to shop for craft supplies from my home.  You can find everything from glitter, beads and pom poms to paints, crafting foam and felt squares. I was excited to find a great craft supply shop online. My kids turn into little maniacs when I take them to a craft store. Now I can finally shop at my leisure and make sure I have everything I need for our project.

So tell me… do you have a unique “handprint” type art project you like to do with your kids?

Great thanks for this review. I have my sons grandparents coming to visit next month and we don’t get to see them but every year or two and I’ve been looking for some cool handprint crafts to do with them and my son so thanks for the ideas.

Thanks for posting about this company~! I love doing crafts with the kids and they love it to. The problem is the nearest store to buy craft supplies is an hour drive one way~! With soaring gas prices reaching $4 per gallon this just isn’t convienent and it is time consuming as well as costly. I recently joined pinterest and I have found so many fun craft projects I want to do with the children but I don’t want to drive for two hours just to buy supplies now with Factory Direct Craft I can sit down at my computer pick 4 or 5 craft projects out from my craft board on pinterest make a list of craft supplies I need and order them to come to the house. How cool is that. It will save me time and money and I can stock up so we have plenty supplies on hand for that next craft item. I have bookmarked this site in my favorites. Thanks again for introducing me to this wonderful online site :)

I love this! I just found my daughter’s hand print plaque and give it to her. She was three years old at the time it was made. It is 19 years old.

I’ll have to check that site out. My mom used it years ago when she sold crafts but I haven’t looked at it in a long time. I have a four month old son and love hand/foot print art! My five year old niece also likes it, when she graduated pre-school I helped her make handprint flowers and the footprint butterfly and she had so much fun! Thanks for the info!

I imagine I could do this with my doggies and cat, too. Great to have their paw prints. :)

I would love to do this with my daughters. I’ve seen the one’s that leave an impression but not “3D” ones. This is something a mother will treasure forever!

I like going to painted pottery shops and making mugs for Dad or cookie platters for grandmas!

That is so cool! I was thinking we did that when I was a kid but I have never seen the 3D one before. Thanks for sharing. I might just have to get some here for the girls.

OMGoodness! I remember doing this in Kindergarten and still have my handprint somewhere. My mom gave it back to me several years ago. I remember being sad that she was ready to let it go (she’s in her late 70′s now). And then being in awe that my hand was ever that small. I never did this with my son as he came to live with us at age 7. But it would be fun. Maybe we should do it now event though he’s older! Great memory. Thanks!
