I am very hard on my hair. I wash, blow dry and curl it every day. This dries it out and damages it. I learned my lesson a few weeks back when my hair stylist had to cut 3 1/2 inches off to level out everything. I had so much breakage I would have had a mullet if she were to try to leave my length (which I am sure would not have been a good look for me!).
My current hair dryer is from “the Marts”. It’s a pretty standard coil heating element dryer that runs around $30. I’ve had it for a very long time (can’t even remember when I purchased it!) and it recently started making funny noises when I used it. Luckily Barbar agreed to let me review their ECO 800 blow dryer.
At first glance I knew this was a nice quality unit. The construction is heavy duty and the cord was a super long 11 foot and rubberized (not the stiff plastic cord on a standard dryer). I can totally see this unit being used in a professional salon, it’s top of the line! I couldn’t wait for the morning to try it out.
I washed as usual and used the blow dryer normally as well. I noticed immediately that strength of the blower… it shot out air much quicker than my old unit. I also noticed that I was not personally over heating like I usually do by the time my hair is dry. I’ve had people walk in the bathroom when I am finished and comment on how hot it was in there. This unit did not do that, but it did dry my hair exceptionally quick! My favorite thing I noticed when my hair was completely dry? My hair was not frizzy! I have somewhat naturally curly hair (it happened after the birth of one of my children… weird huh?) . When using my old unit my hair would be poufy, hot and frizzy. I did not change a thing in the process of drying my hair when using the new dryer and my hair was almost perfectly smooth! I needed just a tiny touchup from my curling iron when I finished my ends and bangs and my hair has been silky smooth.
Now, how on earth does it do it? The difference is the heating element. Standard units use a coil heating element. The radiation from the coil heat opens the hair cuticles and dries them out causing damage. The ECO 800 has a ceramic heating element. This produces “clean heat” (heat with no radiation) which in turn causes less damage to the hair. Radiation, you ask? Yep! An 1,800 Watt unit produces over 200.0 mG (milligauss) of radiation. A ceramic heating element only uses 1,000 Watts to produce equivalent heat to an 1,800 Watt dryer (we’re saving electricity, too!). This ceramic element only produces 5.0 mG of radiation. That’s 195.0 mG LESS than a coil element… YEAH!
Wow… so much technical jargon. In the end… the BarBar ECO 8000 saves electricity (90% less!), throws off 195.0 mG less radiation than a coil heating unit, and it causes far less damage to your hair. One last bonus… it lasts 5x longer than a coil heating element hair dryer which = less waste for the junk yard.

| The Barbar ECO 8000 Blow Dryer uses the latest in technology by having an eco-friendly ceramic heating element, as opposed to all standard dryers that have a coil heating element. The difference is use of electricity & output of radiation. The ECO 8000 has 5.0 mG (milligauss) output radiation. A standard 1,800 WATT dryer has over 200.0 mG! This amount of mG is comparable to the radiation output of a microwave. The ceramic heating element lasts 5x longer than a coil heating element. The ceramic heating element uses 90% electricity, turning it into heat. No energy is wasted, but saved. The coil heating element wastes electricity because it doesn’t use it, thus turning it into radiation. Unused electricity turns into radiation! The BARBAR ECO 8000 is truly eco-friendly; everything a blow dryer should be and much more.
